Fitness challenges are at the heart of MoveWith. Learn how to create engaging challenges that motivate your team to move more.
Creating a Challenge
Only organization admins can create challenges. There are two ways to create a challenge:
From Slack
Run /movewith challenges create and fill out the modal form.
From Web Dashboard
Go to Dashboard → Challenges and click "New Challenge".
Challenge Modes
Company Mode
The entire organization works together toward a shared goal. Everyone contributes to a single collective progress.
Best for: Building company-wide unity and hitting big collective goals
Example: "Walk 1 million steps as a company this month"
Teams Mode
Employees are divided into teams that compete against each other. Teams can be random, by department, or custom.
Best for: Fostering friendly competition and team bonding
Example: "Which team can run the most kilometers this week?"
Individual Mode
Every person competes on their own. Individual rankings show who is leading.
Best for: Recognizing top performers and personal achievements
Example: "Top 10 most active employees win prizes"
Metric Types
Choose what metric to track for your challenge:

Challenge Features
Custom Goals
Set optional goals for challenges. Track progress as a percentage toward the target.
Flexible Duration
Create challenges lasting from a few days to several months. Set custom start and end dates.
Real-time Updates
Progress updates automatically as activities sync. See live standings.
Milestone Celebrations
Get notified in Slack when individuals or teams hit important milestones.
Challenge Lifecycle
Draft
Challenge is created but not yet started. You can still edit all details.
Active
Challenge is in progress. Activities are being tracked and standings are live.
Completed
Challenge end date has passed. Final results are locked and winners are announced.
Cancelled
Challenge was cancelled by an admin. This cannot be undone.
Tips for Successful Challenges
- Start with steps – They're easy to track and everyone can participate regardless of fitness level.
- Keep it short at first – 1-2 week challenges work best until your team gets into the habit.
- Set achievable goals – Unrealistic goals can demotivate. Start conservative and increase over time.
- Celebrate milestones – Enable milestone notifications to keep energy high throughout the challenge.
- Consider prizes – Even small prizes can significantly boost participation.
